Taveri Rajkhowa

Research Consultant

Taveri Rajkhowa is a Research Consultant with the Climate Resilience team at The Council, where she focuses on locally led climate adaptation (LLA) and the intersection of gender, social equity, and resilience. As an Indigenous woman, she brings a lived understanding of community stewardship and traditional knowledge systems, contributing to research on gender-responsive adaptation and climate risk assessments. Her work employs participatory approaches, spatial analysis, and policy evaluations to support inclusive, community-driven decision-making.

She has co-authored research on urban flood risk in Guwahati and land use–land cover change in East Delhi, advancing evidence on climate-linked urban vulnerability. Before joining The Council full-time, she supported the development of a methodology to track adaptation finance in India, conducted extensive community engagement to understand and surface locally led climate action across the Indian subcontinent, and helped consolidate best practices from the Global South to guide policymakers and practitioners in scaling community-driven resilience. She has also worked on sustainability communication and climate advocacy during research roles with Global Crisis Response and NatraWild Networks.

Taveri holds an M.Sc. in Climate Science and Policy from TERI School of Advanced Studies and an M.A. in Geography from the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Her master’s research focused on understanding how gender, age, and livelihood shape unequal climate risks in the Indian Himalayan Region, examining how women and youth build their resilience through community-led governance and local adaptation strategies. She has also explored the lived experiences of homeless women and children in Delhi, investigating their mobility pathways, survival networks, and challenges around accessing night shelters and public services in the city.

Outside of work, Taveri is a passionate reader and a trained artist with a Diploma in Fine Arts and a Gunin (Visarad) certification in Sattriya Nritya. She enjoys dancing, discovering local art, and traveling to uncover stories rooted in people and place, hoping to bring forward the voices and lived narratives of communities across India.
