Atish Padhy

Research Analyst

Atish has joined The Council as a Research Analyst in the Energy Transitions team. His role involves working on responsible renewable energy and low-impact renewable energy siting, which aim to ensure that India’s transition to renewable energy is just and people-centred.

Before joining The Council, Atish worked at Sambodhi Research and Communications Private Limited, a leading Monitoring and Evaluation firm, as a Deputy Research Manager in their Inclusive Growth and Sustainability team. At Sambodhi, he was involved, among others, in the evaluation of a New Development Bank-supported project on the Mumbai metro and a World Bank-supported project on flood resilience in Bihar. As a mixed methods researcher, Atish contributed to the institutionalisation of novel statistical and analytic methods at Sambodhi. His analysis of NSSO data, which shed light on cross-caste disparities in access to technology and digital skills, was published in the India Development Review.

Atish completed his Master's in Public Policy from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, where he was awarded gold medals for the best dissertation and the best graduating student in his batch. His dissertation at NLSIU identified and evaluated the land conflicts and livelihood risks surrounding the development of two ground-mounted solar power projects in Odisha through the lens of energy justice. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Psychology, and English from CHRIST (Deemed To Be) University.

Atish is an avid cyclist and a struggling swimmer; his stress buster of choice is long bicycle rides across South Delhi. He is an ardent fan of test cricket, as well as a perennially frustrated fan of Arsenal F.C. Atish is a keen consumer and supporter of independent media outlets and often spends his weekends reading long-form journalism and books on politics, sociology and the environment. At The Council, Atish looks forward to developing his skill sets in policy and data analysis and program implementation.
