Roopashi Semalty
Communications Consultant
Roopashi has joined The Council as a Consultant for the Outreach team. She has built her experience at the intersection of journalism, filmmaking, and climate communication. Her stories on environment, gender, culture, and politics have appeared in publications like Dialogue Earth, The Quint, The Diplomat, Outlook India, and Madras Courier. Alongside her newsroom stints at The Indian Express, Newslaundry, and The Indian Idiot, she has also donned the directorial hat for student documentaries like The Masakali Miscalculation and Nangma.
Curious by nature, she has dabbled in everything from book reviews to pieces on blockchain before finding her grounding in climate storytelling. She is equally drawn to food histories, cinema, and West Asia geopolitics, often using them as a lens to understand the world around her. A polyglot in the making, she speaks English, Hindi, Garhwali, and is picking up French and Tamil.
Roopashi holds a Master’s in Convergent Journalism from Jamia Millia Islamia along with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Delhi. Her academic research on reproductive justice and environmental narratives continues to give her this false sense of hope that the world is worth saving.
