The CEEW Green Finance Centre (CEEW-GFC) leads The Council’s research and work on sustainable finance. CEEW-GFC has a particular emphasis on advancing the low-carbon transition across emerging economies. In this context, the Centre aims to help deepen markets, increase transparency, and attract capital for the three key sub-transitions that comprise the wider energy transition. These are first, the power sector transition which is a shift from fossil-fuel-based electricity generation to renewable energy (RE) based generation. Second, the mobility transition — which is a shift away from internal combustion engine-powered vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids. Third, the industrial transition — which is a shift away from fossil-fuel-powered industrial processes to those powered by clean energy sources. In addition, CEEW-GFC also works on cross-cutting issues associated with sustainable finance across both domestic and intergovernmental platforms. These include the development of sustainable finance regulatory architectures, carbon markets, and climate change negotiations.
CEEW-GFC evolved from the CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF), launched in July 2019 in the presence of H.E. Mr Dharmendra Pradhan and H.E. Dr Fatih Birol.
