Arnav Mathur
Research Analyst
Arnav has joined The Council as a Research Analyst with the Sustainable Food Systems team. His work primarily focuses on researching alternative and supplementing practices in the agriculture & allied sectors that facilitate a transition towards a self-sufficient and climate-resilient food ecosystem. Beyond quantitative evaluation, he also specializes in assessing the nuances of these developments from a political economy/deep transitions lens to target the structural challenges for policy makers to contend with. His research interests lie at the intersection of the inequality of opportunity, market failures, politics, sociology and systems thinking.
Prior to joining The Council, Arnav worked as a research assistant at ERIA, where he was studying the potential applications of Digital Twinning and IoT technology in welfare delivery. His stock of internship experience includes constructing social accounting matrices (SAMs), decomposing the determinants of air pollution in Uttar Pradesh, developing a Cost-Benefit analysis for four-wheeler fleet electrification, evaluating equity and social justice in technology transfer, among other exciting projects. His Masters’ thesis was centred around using NSSO datasets to perform an empirical causal assessment of Delhi’s politically contentious electricity subsidy, also touching upon cross-subsidy reforms.
Arnav holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Jindal School of Government & Public Policy (JSGP) and a master's in economics & policy from King’s College, London. When not engaged with work, Arnav loves attending classical music concerts, playing badminton, debating philosophy and is usually found engrossed in a book. His favourite de-stressing mechanism includes video games, watching thrillers and taking long nature walks.
